Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands as a transformative force in today's world, reshaping industries, economies, and the very fabric of our society. American companies like Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Tesla are leading AI development efforts on the global stage and their widespread influence does not go unnoticed in other parts of the world.

If America is to maintain its global lead in AI’s technological advancement, it is imperative to have full societal representation at all levels of AI from conceptualization to development, to testing and realization. Additionally, continued leadership in this field not only ensures economic competitiveness but also upholds democratic values in the digital age.

Economic Growth and Inclusion beyond Silicon Valley

An inclusive approach to AI means driving innovation and economic growth in diverse communities throughout the United States. AI technologies have the potential to revolutionize sectors such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, cyber-security, and logistics. By investing in AI education and curricula – particularly generative AI and large language modeling, at community colleges, public universities, and HBCUs, America can create high-quality jobs, foster new industries, and sustain economic growth in inclusive ways.

Therefore, an inclusive AI approach provides the critical perspectives needed within America's leading tech companies will be available to influence the communities that use AI and the world beyond. This proactive stance will also enable the U.S. to set global standards for AI, ensuring that its ethical and regulatory frameworks are aligned with democratic values.

National Security and Global Influence

According to the U.S. National Security Agency, AI is crucial for national security. Advanced AI systems can enhance defense capabilities, improve intelligence gathering, and streamline cybersecurity measures. As other nations, particularly China, ramp up their AI initiatives, it is vital for the U.S. to avoid falling behind by leveraging the totality of its populace to compete with a nation of 1.4 billion. This way, America can maintain a strategic edge to ensure that AI technologies are used responsibly within global security contexts.

With AI's vast potential comes significant ethical considerations. Issues such as privacy, bias, and the impact of AI on employment must be addressed thoughtfully. America can lead by example, by developing nationally representative leaders of global AI systems that are transparent, fair, and that respects individual rights. By doing so, the U.S. can influence international norms and practices to promote a vision of AI that aligns with our country’s democratic principles and human dignity.
